Where does Lezat source its cotton?

Currently, we use GOTS-certified organic cotton yarns sourced from India, chosen for their quality, traceability, and adherence to strict environmental and social standards. These yarns are then shipped to Los Angeles, where we handle dyeing, printing, cutting, and sewing locally.

We are also in the process of transitioning toward California-grown, regenerative cotton through a Climate Beneficial program. This next chapter allows us to move even closer to a true seed-to-closet supply chain — supporting local agriculture, improving soil health, and reducing our overall footprint.

As always, we believe transparency matters, and we’ll continue to share our progress as our sourcing evolves.

Why does Lezat use organic cotton instead of synthetic or semi-synthetic fabrics?

We wanted fabrics that were better for everyone involved — not just the person wearing them. Organic cotton is grown from non-GMO seeds without the use of toxic herbicides or pesticides, making it safer for farmers, surrounding ecosystems, and ultimately your skin.

Beyond how it’s grown, organic cotton is naturally breathable, durable, and gentle — especially for people with sensitivities. Unlike synthetic or semi-synthetic fibers, it doesn’t rely on petroleum inputs or harsh chemical processing. For us, organic cotton felt like the most honest foundation for building clothing that aligns with our values of health, transparency, and long-term wear.

Better fashion should feel good — and do good.

How are Lezat’s printed fabrics made, and what makes them non-toxic?

Our prints are applied directly to the fabric without chemical coatings or pre-treatments. Inks are heat-set into the fibers, with hydrogen peroxide as the harshest ingredient.

We use a direct-to-fabric printing method that allows our inks to be printed directly into the fabric — without the need for chemical coatings, binders, or fabric pre-treatments.

Unlike conventional textile printing, which often requires heavy chemical primers or plastic-based layers, our process relies on heat to set the inks into the fibers themselves, keeping the fabric breathable, soft, and true to its natural feel.

The harshest ingredient used in our ink system is hydrogen peroxide, which is commonly used in clean textile processing and breaks down into water and oxygen. We do NOT use any metals, PVCs, phthalates, nor formaldehyde, which are all commonly found in conventional textile inks.

This process allows us to create sporty, feminine, and fashion-forward prints without compromising on safety — for the people making our clothes, the people wearing them, or the environment.

What is bio-based elastane?

Bio-based elastane (creora®) is a stretch fiber that is partially made from renewable plant-based resources—like corn—rather than being 100% derived from petroleum.

How is it different from regular spandex?

Our garments carry no more than 8% of bio-based elastane. Traditional spandex is made entirely from fossil fuels. Our bio-based elastane replaces about 30% of those inputs with plant-based materials, reducing reliance on petrochemicals while maintaining the same stretch and recovery.

Why does Lezat use it?

We use a small amount of bio-based elastane to give our organic cotton garments stretch, structure, and durability—without relying entirely on plastic-based fibers.

Why not make everything 100% cotton?

100% cotton has no stretch. For certain styles (like leggings and fitted pieces), a small amount of elastane is necessary for comfort and fit. We keep this percentage as low as possible while maintaining performance.

If I have a corn allergy, will the corn in your elastane affect me?

We use a bio-based elastane derived from corn, but it is important to note that corn allergies are typically reactions to corn proteins found in the kernel. Our elastane is derived from the inner core of the corn (the cob), not the edible kernel, and the final fiber does not contain corn proteins. For most people with corn allergies, this should not pose an issue. However, if you have a severe or highly sensitive allergy, we always recommend consulting your healthcare provider before wearing any elastic-containing garments.

If I have a rubber or latex allergy, will your bio-based elastane affect me?

Our bio-based elastane combines corn-derived content with rubber. Individuals with a strong rubber or latex allergy should generally avoid all elastic fibers, regardless of whether they are petroleum-based or bio-based. If you have a known rubber or latex sensitivity, we recommend choosing garments without elastic or consulting your medical professional before wear.

Are Lezat leggings see-through?

Lezat leggings are designed with high-coverage, heavyweight organic cotton fabric to provide strong opacity while remaining breathable and comfortable.

Because we use natural fibers instead of plastic-based fabrics, our leggings may not have the same completely opaque, “slick” finish as fully synthetic activewear — but they are engineered to offer reliable coverage for everyday wear, movement, and workouts.

We’ve found the balance between breathability, softness, and coverage — so you can feel confident without wearing plastic-heavy fabrics.

Why doesn’t Lezat use bamboo fabric?

While bamboo is often marketed as a natural or “clean” fabric, most bamboo textiles are actually heavily processed. To turn bamboo into soft fabric, the plant must be broken down using chemical solvents to create a pulp, which is then regenerated into fiber.

The result is a semi-synthetic material — similar to rayon or viscose — rather than a truly natural fiber like cotton.

At Lezat, we prioritize materials that are closer to their natural state, which is why we use GOTS-certified organic cotton. It allows us to maintain a higher standard for how our fabrics are grown, processed, and worn against the skin.

For us, it’s about choosing the most transparent and low-tox option from start to finish.

CERTIFICATIONS

Is Lezat listed in the GOTS database?

Lezat uses GOTS-certified organic cotton yarns sourced from India and knitted in California by Pacific Sourcing Group. You can verify our certification through the official GOTS database using the license number: GOTS-CUC-03-1414332

We also make our GOTS certificates available on our website for full transparency.

CARING FOR ORGANIC COTTON

Our garments are made from high-quality organic cotton, designed to soften with time and last with proper care. Because organic cotton is a natural fiber — not a plastic-based fabric — it benefits from a gentler approach than conventional activewear.

Washing
  • Wash cold using a gentle or normal cycle
  • Turn garments inside out to protect color and prints
  • Use a mild, non-toxic detergent (avoid optical brighteners and fabric softeners)
  • Wash with like fabrics — avoid washing with towels, denim, or heavy items, which can cause friction and pilling
Why no towels?

Towels are abrasive and shed lint, which can wear down natural fibers over time and dull the surface of organic cotton.

Drying
  • Lay flat or hang to dry whenever possible
  • If using a dryer, tumble dry low and remove promptly

High heat can weaken natural fibers and reduce the lifespan of cotton garments.

What to Avoid
  • Fabric softeners (they coat fibers and reduce breathability)
  • Bleach or harsh stain removers
  • High heat drying or ironing directly on prints
Why Organic Cotton Cares Differently Than Synthetic Activewear

Most activewear is made from polyester or nylon, which are plastic-based fibers that can trap odor and require chemical finishes to manage moisture and smell.

Organic cotton behaves differently — naturally.

Natural Benefits of Organic Cotton

  • Breathable by nature, helping regulate temperature
  • Less odor retention because it doesn’t trap bacteria the way synthetics do
  • Softens with wear and washing, instead of breaking down
  • Gentle on sensitive skin, without chemical coatings
  • Easy to refresh — a simple wash often removes odors without additives

Because organic cotton doesn’t rely on synthetic finishes, it maintains its integrity and comfort over time when cared for properly.

Pro Tip: How We Care for Ours

We wash our Lezat pieces cold, skip the dryer when we can, and avoid mixing them with heavy fabrics. The result? Pieces that feel better with every wear and hold their shape beautifully over time.
